An accurate estimation on the prevalence of Covid-19 in Sri Lanka cannot be made based on the number of cases reported on a daily basis in the present, emphasised Upul Rohana, Chairman of the Public Health Inspectors Association.
He opined that this is mainly due to the fact that the number of PCR and Rapid Antigen interventions has been slashed via a circular by the Director General of Health Services.
According to the circular, PCR and Rapid Antigen Tests have been limited to those with symptoms and first contact associations, Rohana went on, revealing that only a limited number of patients are tested daily amid the situation.
Rohana warned that the number of infected people in the community could be several times higher than those reported, and that the national records do not provide an accurate estimation of the contagion’s prevalence in the country.
