The majority of the people in the North and the East are engaged in agriculture and are facing severe difficulties due to the government ban on fertilizer, revealed TNA Batticaloa MP Shanakiyan Rasamanikkam speaking to media.
The sudden conversion of chemical fertilizer-based farming into organic farming is not an accurate decision, the MP pointed out, adding that that there is a risk of the occurrence of famine in the country due to the fertiliser crisis.
Although the adaptation of organic farming is good, the practice should be implemented in a manner in which famine will not be occurred, he added.
The TNA MP further noted that the farming community of the North and the East, therefore, have decided to protest against the non-provision of fertiliser to farmers in front of all Agrarian Services Offices in the region.
