President Ranil Wickremesinghe says he will not dissolve Parliament just to hold an election. Speaking in Parliament today, the President said as the nation is currently facing several economic issues, an election was not a priority, and can be held after resolving the issues.

“Many people in the country are now fed up with elections and politics. Every political party, including the SJB and the ruling party, still consists of the same members. The youth of the nation are expecting new faces,” he said.

President Wickremesinghe added that an election can be held after introducing new people as expected by the public, adding that anyone can take over power after that.

The President emphasized that the electoral system must be amended, as corruption is rife under the preferential voting system.
