Seventy monks from Thailand, Laos and Myanmar arrived at Katunayake Airport yesterday morning (11) for a paada yaathra to commemorate the 270th anniversary of the bringing of Upasampada from Burma (Myanmar) to Sri Lanka and the commencement of the Siam Maha Nikaya in Sri Lanka.

This group of monks is to engage in a one-month paada yaathra covering Gampaha, Colombo, Kurunegala, Dambulla, Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Kandy and Sri Pada. It has also been planned to distribute dry food items to the residents of villages and hamlets whom the monks will meet.

The Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau had organized a reception at the Katunayake Airport arrival terminal, lobby hall to welcome this group.
