Foreign Affairs Minister Ali Sabry who will visit the United States from November 29 to December 4, 2022, is expected to seek the assistance of that country to get Sri Lanka’s engagement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) expedited, Daily Mirror learns. He is visiting the United States at the invitation of U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, a statement from the ministry said.

Foreign Minister Sabry is scheduled to meet Secretary of State Blinken, members of the Congress and other senior interlocutors of the U.S. Government during the visit. Besides, the Minister will seek further humanitarian assistance from USAID. Sri Lanka is currently in negotiations with lenders for debt restructuring ahead of any deal with the IMF for economic recovery.
