Six to eight daily power cuts will have to be imposed from next year, if the proposed electricity tariff amendments were not implemented, Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekara said. Making a special statement in Parliament, the minister said power traiffs will have to be increased in January.

” The production cost of one unit of power is Rs 56.90. the Ceylon Electricity Board needs Rs 420 billion to meet it’s expenditure,” he said. ” Ceylon Electricity Board owes Rs 70 billion to the private power plants and Rs 40 billion to small scale power suppliers,’ he added.
